Comparison of the last strides' speed and technical level of the world and Lithuanian best pole-vaulters
(Vergleich der Geschwindigkeiten der letzten Anlaufschritte im Stabhochsprung von den weltbesten und litauischen Stabhochspringern)
At present a considerable amount of practical and theoretical information has been accumulated, thus making it possible to impartially judge the peculiarities and patterns in fiberglass pole-vaulting techniques. Opinions regarding various vaulting aspects can differ, however, physical and mechanical principles of the vault are irrefutable.
At the moment the results of men pole-vaulters in Lithuania are of low level. Sportsmen, who jump 4.00—4.40 m in height compete for the first places at national track-and-field athletics championships. The aim of this work was to compare the best Lithuanian pole-vaulters and the best world pole-vaulters` running speed at the last run-up strides and the level of technical preparation.
We compared four best pole-vaulters of Lithuania and four world famous pole-vaulters. The results of Lithuanian pole-vaulters are no less than 4 m and the results of the world famous pole-vaulters are no less than 5.80 m.
Our analysis showed that at the last strides Lithuanian pole-vaulters` running speed (7.35—7.60 m/s) is much slower than that of the world athletes (9.53—9.79 m/s). The continued acceleration of the last 4 strides is an indication of good skills acquired in this part of the pole-vault. Because of slower running Lithuanian pole-vaulters jump with lower handgrip (4.00—4.55 m). Because of the accomplishment of jump technique the difference between the grip and the bar -0.05—0.40 m. The world pole-vault leaders have the handgrip of 4.84—5.15 m and the difference between the grip and the bar is 0.99—1.16 m. These results demonstrate that Lithuanian pole-vaulters have problems with acceleration and pole-vaulting technique.
