Spatiotemporal dynamics and tactical interactions in competitive tennis: a scoping review
(Raum-zeitliche Dynamiken und taktische Interaktionen im Wettkampftennis: eine Übersichtsstudie)
Examining how tennis players disrupt stable coordination to gain an advantage or restore balance provides valuable insight into their decision-making and interaction dynamics. However, the mechanisms behind leading or lagging in interactions and the role of interpersonal coordination in performance outcomes remain unclear. This scoping review consolidates existing research on players` positional strategies and tactical decision-making, exploring how spatiotemporal variables influence performance to guide future research and practical applications in coaching and match analysis. A systematic search across Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and SPORTDiscus, combined with expert input following PRISMA guidelines for Scoping Reviews, identified 24 studies investigating tennis players` positional interactions in real-game situations, published in English or Spanish. The findings highlight effective strategies and key performance factors, providing valuable insights into how tactical decisions and interpersonal coordination shape game outcomes. However, further research is needed to clarify how and why interaction dynamics between players change, considering movement characteristics in relation to ball parameters.
