The role of video technology in football coaching: An integrative review

Football coaches, players, performance analysts, pundits, and fans use videos to analyze the game. This paper reviews how the role of video technology in football coaching has been examined in academic literature. We propose a new conceptual framework encompassing the technological, coaching, and football knowledge perspectives in the literature. By conducting a framework-driven qualitative analysis and integrating 34 systematically selected scientific articles, we summarized the main opportunities, including the development of team play, increased player involvement, and methods for enhancing coaching strategies. However, potential limitations were identified, such as harmful overreliance on technology, increased mental workload, and insufficient resources for manual video work.
