      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Trained cyclists (N = 8) who had a moderate degree of base training were subjected to four weeks of high-intensity interval training to see if simulated 40 km time trial performances could be improved.
High-intensity interval training consisted of six to eight 5-min repetitions at 80% of peak power output. The recovery interval consisted of one minute pedaling at a low intensity.
The interval training experience increased peak power output and fatigue resistance as well as improving simulated 40 km time trial performances.
Implication: Performances improve if performance quality is increased on a daily basis over less-than-performance-specific base training. It is likely that the rate of improvement will be relatively quick but such improvements should not be expected to occur continually over longer durations.]]></content:encoded>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Es wird untersucht, ob ein 4wöchiges hochintensives Intervalltrainingsprogramm (HIT) die 40km-Leistung (TT40) von 8 Radsportlern (VO2max 5.2+/-0.4 l/min) verbessert. Die Sportler führten in dieser Zeit weiterhin ein gemäßigtes Ausdauertraining (BASE) durch. Vor dem Programm wurden alle Probanden mindestens dreimal getestet, ob ihre Grundlagenleistung stabil ist. Die Radsportler ersetzten 15+/-2% ihres BASE-Trainings (300km/Woche) durch ein HIT, das an 6 Tagen in der Woche stattfand und aus 6-8 5minütigen Fahrradergometerbelastungen  bei 80% der maximalen Leistung und  60sekündigen Pausen bestand. Im Ergebnis des4wöchigen Trainingsprogramms wurden eine erhöhte maximale Kraftleistung und ein erhöhter Ermüdungswiderstand sowie  eine Verbesserung der 40km-Leistung festgestellt.]]></content:encoded>
