Genetics and endurance performance: What do we really know?

Summary • Genetics is an important aspect of becoming an elite endurance athlete. • Environmental factors as well as the interplay between genetics and environmental factors also play a role in determining if an individual becomes an elite endurance athlete. • The study of the genetics` effect on athletic ability is a relatively young science and there is much to learn before it becomes an exact science and before useful, practical information can be provided to coaches and athletes.
